You just had a baby. Everything is new, beautiful, and maybe a little overwhelming. The last thing you need is a stressful photo session, and I promise, that is not what this will be. Here is exactly what to expect when you come to Flowertown Photography for your newborn session.
Timing is Everything
The best time for a newborn session is within the first two weeks of life, ideally between days 5 and 21. During this window, babies are still incredibly sleepy and naturally curl into those sweet poses you see in my portfolio. They have not yet developed the startle reflex that makes older newborns harder to settle, and their skin is typically at its smoothest.
That said, I have photographed babies up to eight weeks old and still captured beautiful images. If your little one arrives early or life gets hectic, do not stress, we will make it work.
Before You Arrive
A few days before your session, I will send you a prep guide with everything you need to know. The biggest tip? Feed your baby right before you come. A full belly makes for a sleepy, content baby, and sleepy babies are the easiest to pose.
Bring an extra outfit for yourself in case of any little accidents, and wear something comfortable. You will be spending a few hours in a warm, cozy studio.
The Studio Experience
My studio in Summerville is set up specifically for newborns. The room stays warm (around 75-78 degrees) because babies fresh from the womb love warmth. I have a white noise machine running throughout the session, and the lighting is soft and gentle.
When you arrive, we will chat for a few minutes, then I will take your baby and get to work. You and your partner are welcome to relax, scroll your phones, take a cat nap, or just watch. Many parents tell me this is the most relaxed they have felt since bringing baby home.
What we will capture
A typical newborn session lasts two to three hours and includes a variety of setups. You can expect a mix of baby-only poses in wraps, baskets, and on simple backdrops, along with parent and sibling portraits (during a Premier Newborn Session). I keep a curated collection of props, wraps, headbands, and outfits in soft neutrals and earth tones that complement any nursery style.
I will guide every pose and every detail, you do not need to bring anything except your baby and yourselves.
After the Session
Your soft-proof gallery will be ready for viewing within two weeks. If you are expecting or just brought your little one home, I would love to capture this moment for you. Head over to my contact page to get in touch, and let's start planning your session.
